On the Subject of Guest Bloggers

Over the last several months, the number of requests I've received for guest articles has grown quite a bit. I am open to accepting guest posts but they have to fit the site.

This is a very diverse audience of several thousand people. The majority ride, but many do not. Those who ride come from all backgrounds and represent all experience levels.

Writing for this diverse audience is challenging but rewarding.

Since I am often asked, here are a few thoughts off the top of my head of the kinds of things that people here seem to like:

  • road reports of travel to far away places, the challenges encountered, what was experienced and what was learned.
  • how becoming a motorcyclist changed you.
  • how to become a better rider, how to ride in the weather, how to ride far, how to camp, how to travel light, ...
  • the mental and philosophical aspects of riding and how those might apply to other areas in life.

Clearly, a whole host of other topics would also be of interest. The above list is just a sampling.

While ideally I would like to be as open as possible, after having received too many "corporate blogger" requests, here are a few general guidelines:

  • guest authors should be motorcyclists. It does not matter if you are a rank beginner, but you should ride.
  • guest authors should have some kind of online presence. Ideally, this would be a blog that showcases your writing, but a Twitter feed or public Facebook profile would suffice. A guest post on another blog would also work.
  • corporate articles with the sole purpose of increasing link popularity will not be accepted. This doesn't mean I won't accept useful articles from corporations, but articles must add value to the readership here.
  • if I accept an article of yours here, I will promote the article to this audience, and will expect you to promote it to yours.
  • to post the article, I ask that authors register for an M-BY-MC account and fill out a profile which I'll link to.

Given the above, if you would like to write a guest article for the Miles By Motorcycle blog, please contact me
