The screws on my 2009 DR650SE Neutral Sender Unit were just past finger tight. It would not have been long before they worked themselves completely loose.

Bullet dodged. Photos and more info soon.

Good thing you checked--better than finding the switch dangling as I did...

As a (probably long overdue) follow up, the bike has worked and run well since we did the neutral switch repair.

I've got somewhere north of 500 miles on it so far, and am looking forward to better weather so I can pile up some more

Exploring tire choices for the my DR650SE. It's time to replace the Death Wings with something a bit better. Considering Heidenau's:

Realistically I do about 90% of my riding on pavement searching for fire trails and gravel roads so the K76 may be a better option than the K60:

buffalo, what tires are you running on your dr650?

Huh. Revzilla is out of the Heidenau K60's and interestingly Heidenau doesn't seem to make a correctly sized rear for the DR650SE, which is 120/90-17. Procycle lists a 130/80-17 as an option but I need to verify that that tire will work. I'm not a fan of mounting incorrectly sized tires.

So now I'm looking at the tires buffalo has on his DR which are the Mefo explorers:

EDIT: These are NOT the correct weights to use.

So buffalo and I realized yesterday when trying to mount the MEFO Explorers on my DR650SE that we didn't have the right kind of wheel balance weights.

The stick on kind won't work on the thin spoked rims. Instead they require a kind of weight that crimps onto the spokes themselves.

I'm going to give these over at Revzilla a try:

So I found out the hard way that the Barnett weights don't seem to be the right ones.

    I have however found these:

Blog article will be forthcoming once I have a chance to write, which should be in the next couple days.

Long story short, I destroyed my clutch up on the mountain pass outside of Ephraim, Utah in a kind of sticky cement like mud. I was making good progress until the mud caked up on the rear wheel so much it locked the wheel at which point the clutch broke free and broke.

I have heard of front wheels locking up, but I have never heard of this happening to a drive wheel.

bruce came out and got me. (18 hours round trip. Thank you!!) I'm going to open the bike up, inspect the damage, and start replacing parts.

I have to confirm it, but rumor has it the clutch is a weak point when it comes to deep mud.
