...I was up at Bob's today and saw a late model (early 2k'ish?) Triumph Sprint with about 10k miles on it. The label said "great track bike" and the price was $3995. They must have just got it in, b/c it's not on the website yet.

LOL, a lot of times dealers like to say "great track bike" to make shoppers think of it as being very sporty. Most "great" track bikes don't have to advertise as such
For about 4K you can get a real track bike, with spares, race plastics, race components, etc (and usually will include extras like tire warmers and more) from any of the racing or track day organization forums. take a look here and see what about 4K can get you (and the larger orgs have many times more bikes and options available all the time):

Wow, from the description on the web site why would anyone in their right mind pay $4 grand for that thing?? I was blown away by this statement though :"...safe and roadworthy machine we could offer up for under $4,000 and we don’t get to do that too often." Seriously? There are AMAZING bikes out there for $4K or less, this thing is a lime green turd.

Pull up all the pics and look behind the plastics. Obviously it was completely repainted (not factory color and there are no longer any factory graphics), the brakes were leaking, and there are tell tale scuffs on all the hard parts. These particular bikes were just "OK" when they came out, they were really a transition model to the previous generation Sprint GT and tried to slot in between it and the old Daytona. This one though...the description of what was done, the color, and the signs when you look closely at it (hint, don't just look at the hard parts, look at the discoloration in the plumbing and a relative "dirtiness" one layer in. I wouldn't buy that bike for parts.
