2015 Very Wet Western Maryland West Virginia Fall Ride with Joel
Joel and his father John came down to Maryland from New Hampshire. While John was in class, Joel and I took a little ride out to Western Maryland despite the weather forecast. The early part of the day was entertaining. We ended up on Harpers Ferry Road which is this bouncy hilly twisty little fun road where the crests are so narrow you're likely to catch air if you're not careful. We found our way to Berkeley Springs for lunch at which point the rain started, more of a drizzle really. We followed Route 9 for quite some time trying various dead end side roads. We eventually found our way to Bear Hill Road which was quite nice but at this point it had started to rain consistently. As the sun went down into a soggy horizon we opted to super slab it back.
2015 Ian's British Columbia Weekend Run

Yermo, I don't know how to make a map without a GPS file so you'll have to go with the old fashioned (and short) description... Had a really fun ride last weekend with three other folks. We left Victoria Friday night on the 7pm ferry and rode through Vancouver and up to Squamish, which is on the way to Whistler. That was the mundane part of the trip and involved night riding, but it was a good curvy road with light traffic, so, still enjoyable. There was some rain Saturday morning before we left and we had cold wet roads from the start. It was clearing up and drying out by the time we got to Whistler where we stopped for breakfast at The Southside Diner, which was a warm hearty meal with plenty of coffee. As you must know, Whistler is up in the mountains, but the road goes up from there and winds its way through some absolutely gorgeous mountain scenery. Being the last weekend in September, traffic was light; I'm sure it's full of RVs and other slow traffic in the summer, so it was a good time to be there. At every turn the scenery was more and more impressive. The road surface was good and we kept up a spirited pace. Splendid riding. While stopped at a glorious overlook we observed a large group of Lamborghinis drive past, then more, and a little later still more. There must have been 25 in total! We were told it's an annual ride (drive) from Calgary to Vancouver. On the east side of the mountains the road drops elevation and the land starts to dry out. We passed through Lillooet and Cache Creek on our way to Kamloops, where we stayed Saturday night. The roads open uphere and the speeds picked up. Heading back toVancouver and the ferry on Sunday was on larger roads, though theystill curve through the mountains. We spent too much time loading upon a fantastic breakfast of crepes at the Amsterdam Restaurant, so wecranked it up a notch on the return trip, with long high-speed runs,so much so that my speedometer cable broke! It was loads of funwithout any law enforcement in sight and the group had a grand ol'time and made the ferry with time to spare. I can highlyrecommend highway 99 from Vancouver north over the mountains and back.
2015 September Fantastic Pennsylvania Little Bouncy Mountain Country Road Ride
This was arguably the best day long ride we have ever had anywhere around Washington DC. We slabbed it up 85 miles from North of the City to Mont Alto, PA where we picked up Route 233.
Route 233 is simply a fantastic twisty hilly mountain park road that goes one for quite some miles in tree covered beauty. We continued on to Pine Grove Road which was more of the same.
From Mount Holly Springs where we had lunch we continued on to Route 74 which we short circuited to ride route 944 West which was a surprisingly fun hilly curvy farm country road. From there we picked up 233 to head over the mountains. Again 233 is just fantastic with tree covered serious inclines and all kinds of corners. We turned left on route 850 for more cornering fun all seemingly devoid of traffic.
From there we found our way to Black Log Road which was this lane and a half wide endless road that went through isolated little mountain settlements in the middle of nowhere for so long we began to worry about fuel.
Veterans Way Route 74 in Pennsylvania
This is a great roads the traverses three small mountain ranges. It's a mix of gently rolling farm country and some wickedly sharp switchbacks over the mountains. Traffic is light and some of the vistas from the mountain tops are spectacular.
