This was a right proper serious switchbacks mountain pass that was much more intense than the others we had crossed in the area. It rocked.
This is an excellent narrow twisty bouncy forested mountain road with occasional stretches of houses. This has long been one of our favorites. WARNING: Where it meets with Route 16 on a downhill slope towards the stop sign, we encountered deep loose chip seal which led to an off. Be cautious on these roads. Chip seal is a recurring danger.
Fantastic long mountain ridge 1.5 car widths road. Technical, twisty with steep grade changes and switchbacks. Few sections of houses. Occassional oncoming traffic. Gravel/chip seal in some corners. Deep forest, steep dropoffs and ravines. Views. Saw a group of BMW riders heading in the opposite direction. Best road of the day so far. Saw one deer in the road.
I keep forgetting that I prefer this technical little mountain road to Harpers Ferry Road. Hilly. Technical. Forested. Sparse to moderate houses. We used to own property along this road.
This is a highly technical climb over the pass with surprising and challenging decreasing radius 25mph corners. It is really easy to go wide. Be careful on this road. It's a "High Motorcycle Accident" area. It does carry a fair amount of traffic, but it is still one of our favorite roads in the wider DMV area.

I'll have to rescout this road. I'm pretty sure I remember this road as a wonderfully curvey tree lined mountain road that's one of the better ones in the area. I could have sworn I had tagged this road but that may have predated the database upgrade.
