462.9 miles today. Crazy twistiness. Route 250 for as long as it is is relentless.

2848.8 miles total. I think I may not ride the DR for a bit.

321 miles yesterday. A bit more than I was planning.

I really enjoyed the Snake despite being behind slow moving trikes. Double Island Road was suitably nuts.

VA Route 80 was in much better shape than the last time I rode it. They have repaved much of it. It's still a dangerous twisty little road where the edge of the pavement is a serious drop off.

I had planned to ride the Back of the Dragon again but took a wrong turn and ended up on 16 North which I thought was /fantastic/. It goes through depressed coal mining country deep in these ravines along proper cliff walls. It just goes on for miles and miles eventually merging with 52. 52 is not quite as awesome as 16 but still quite a notable road. I'm going to have to explore this area is much more detail.

I was strangely error prone yesterday. I rolled into a tunnel that I misjudged and everything went pitch black. I had to come to a stop to pull the sunglasses off. It was so dark I didn't realize I hadn't come to a stop when I put my feet down. Stupid mistake.

On NC 80, The Devil's Whip, coming downhill to a sharp 10mph right hander, I missed a shift and ended up in neutral for a moment which caused a moment's panic.

The night before I lost situational awareness on NC 28 and misremembered a turn. I got surprised, panicked, went way wide and nearly crashed.

I have not made mistakes like this in literally years. By the end of yesterday I found myself feeling very tentative on the bike.

I spent the morning and laid out a rather nice elaborate route that includes NC 80, Roan Mountain, Double Island Road, The Snake, SR 80, and Back fo the Dragon ...

Bearings out. Definitely toast. No other damage. Francois spent his afternoon helping me with this. Unfortunately, DST didn’t have the right sized bearings so we’ll go to the bearing shop tomorrow.

“If there is any doubt there isn’t any.” After careful consideration with Megan, we’ve decided discretion is the better part of valor. Megan has asked Francios to bring the truck.

Some kind of failure in the rear wheel. Bearings maybe. It’s making a dramatic clunking sound.

155.3 miles back to Megan and Francios' house. I rode the Leicester Highway which I really enjoyed and will have to ride again. Tall and twisty. Then I went through the Smoky Mountains National Park along Mt. Sterling Road. That's such a fantastic ride. There was a fair amount of traffic. The weather was simply beautiful. Once out, I unwisely opted to try to make time by just following the fastest route calculated by the Zumo which led me through many stop light and much traffic.

Francios and I went out to dinner and then stopped by DST to look at a stock exhaust for the DR that the has lying around. Of note was an electric sport bike he has in the shop. From there we headed back to his house and did a walking tour of their rather large wooded and hilly property.

The bike cut out on me and wouldn’t start. 113 miles on this tank. Switched to reserve with some starting fluid and it started right up and stayed started. Air fiilter maybe?
