The question comes up fairly often as to what gear I take with me. I'll put together a detailed article on the subject but in the mean time, this is a thread to capture any trick gear items that you might take along.

My mini-compressor is probably the coolest thing I carry:

    Thanks for the Link.
Yeah, we were all pretty impressed when you pulled that out of your bag.

I also ordered a patch kit, to go with it:

Here are Jon's (from RevZilla) thoughts on the Nolan N104 for mounting the Sena comm. (BTW, I don't see how to make the links "live." Sorry.)

The Nolan N104 is a bit of a step up from the Symax 3. Installation for the Nolan is a bit trickier because they have a hard plastic lip at the bottom of the helmet. You will need to use the adhesive mount in these situations. Or some customers will use a tool to cut the plastic rim of the helmet (not recommended).

Here's a copy of Jon's email regarding the SyMax 3. He also talked about the Nolan and I'll get that info up as well.  The HJC Sy-Max 3 can be used with a Sena SMH10. That is a very high quality helmet at that price point. The Chatterbox is designed for that helmet, but it is not a good comm system in our experience. We do not tend to recommend it. The Sena option is much better, but installation will be slightly tricky since you have to install the unit on top of the panel on the left side of the helmet. I found images of the Sena SMH10 installed on the original Symax for reference. The original Symax did not have the panel, but the image will get you a better idea of what to expect with a modular helmet installation.

Neat gadget for fixing broken zipper sliders. We used this on buffalo's Tourmaster jacket recently and it seems to work well. Review coming soon:

The repair has worked very well, though we discovered the tension adjustment can be a bit touchy. Once we got it set correctly though, it's worked perfectly.  In a related discovery, applying 'Chapstik' lip balm to balky zippers that stick or pop open *may* allow them to work normally again.  When we had first installed the replacement slider, the zipper worked poorly and wouldn't close consistently. But after sacrificing a tube of Chapstik to the teeth, normal operation returned.

I can't remember if this has been posted yet, but I never leave without Plexus and a micro-fiber towel. This stuff is great for cleaning face shields, sunglasses, bodywork, etc.

Yermo, furniture polish works as good as the Plexus IMHO and costs way less.

I went to the Ozarks over Memorial Day weekend and I had some in my tour pack along with a microfiber cloth.

I pulled it out among a group of riding friends at one of the stops...What I got back was a half a can and a bug filled cloth!

So over the past year I've been seeing more and more of these hit the market at a very reasonable price point.

The weather is getting cold out there. Your bike's old battery might be struggling to hold enough charge and the cold environment is going to push it past the threshold of being able to crank your engine. Don't be stranded.

Obviously the solution is to upgrade to the new Lithium batteries, but if you're not quite ready to make that (increasingly affordable) investment, pick up one of these jumpstarters for only $50.

Oh very cool, Ben Mendis. I wonder, however, what the ignition danger of these batteries is? It seems like they are packing a great deal of energy in a ridiculously small footprint. With all the igniting laptop battery problems over the years, I wonder how these compare?

So I need to replace the gear I wear for dual sport riding. The Alpenstar jacket and Airglide pant combination I wear just isn't working out.

    I'm seriously considering this suit:

    Thanks for the link!

I'm having to balance competing requirements. I'm going to be riding nearly 5000 miles off-pavement at pretty slow speeds in incredibly hot weather. As a result, I'm optimizing for impact protection and airflow over abrasion resistance because I overheat too easily.
