Starts at I-40, west end. Single track linking the two roads for download as a .GPX file.
Good pavement makes this curvy ride through the neighborhoods and woods a nice ride.
Meadow Fork Road and Caldwell Mountain Road make a 9 mile loop off NC 209 from Bluff, NC to the middle of the Spring Creek Valley. Meadow Fork Road is the longer of the two and the better ride tracing the bank of the creek. Caldwell Mountain Road takes you over the hump to reach the next valley. Both roads offer some nice twists and curves and add variety to a ride on popular NC 209.
This route strings together about 65 miles of roads in the Pisgah National Forest on the south slopes of the Blue Ridge Parkway. About 45 miles is on unpaved forest roads.
Distance: 116 miles
Estimated Ride time: 3-4 hours. Numerous stops can make this an all day adventure.
This is one of the best loved loop rides in the southeast. It includes the challenging Dragon at Deals Gap and the wonderful Cherohala Skyway. Half technical, half cruising, it has something for everyone to enjoy.
I may be mistaken, but I believe this is the road often pictured on facebook with the crazy wavy landscape. Straight line but vertically "twisty".
One of my all time favorite roads in the country. This is an extremely technical 11 mile long route without cross roads or driveways.
A mishmash of recent day rides that Yermo and I have taken since the trip down south to the mountains.
I've dutifully been taking photos of every closed road sign in the hopes that it'll be helpful for others. As of this writing, I'm in Fort Smith, AR and have traveled here from Andrews, NC. I'll update this map with any additional closings as I make my way West.
The day started out very pleasantly but degraded into a wet mess while I was up in the hills. Off camber switchbacks next to steep dropoffs on red clay is very challenging when it's wet. It was very very wet.
Ryan and I took a day ride through the Northern Maryland countryside. It was the first time we had been out with him on his VFR800 in many years.
I met up with Steve Metz, whose writing I've been following on Facebook, for a ride through some of his favorite Southern Pennsylvania roads.
394 miles all told. PA 26 was particularly nice as was 233.
The intent had been to go see a field of sun flowers that were starting to bloom in Poolesville, Md. It's quite a large field. Afterwards we headed out along random roads where ever the mood took us. We've been riding through these areas for decades and managed to find significantly long narrow twisty little roads we never knew existed.
I was on my '92 K100RS and Duncan on his '09 K1300S.
Punkin Center, TN to US 411 near Maryville - Use this section of US 129 to reach the Dragon, the Tennessee Foothills Parkway, and other good rides. There are a few tight curves, but the road relaxes as it runs north to meet US 411 outside Maryville, TN.
Our usually annual trip down south.
